I’ve found that one of the best ways for me to stay motivated for workouts is to sign up for fun 5Ks and longer-distance races. If you can’t tell from reading my blog, the idea of a challenge is a strong motivator for me. 5Ks may not be extremely difficult but I think you’re heading in the right direction anytime you can make yourself look at exercise as fun.
So, in that spirit, my husband and I ran our local Black Light Run 5K last night. If you’ve ever heard of the Color Run, it’s the same concept, just run at night under black lights and the color is neon!
The concept of the race was so fun! As you can tell we got a ton of glow stick necklaces and bracelets. I also had blinking lights in my hair. Everyone around us had glowing glasses, hats, shoes, etc. we had a lot of fun checking things out long before the race even started!
Once the race did start, it was even better. I’ve mentioned before that I’m training for a half marathon so I run a decent amount anyway, but it has never been easy for me. I’ve had a lot of issues with different running pain and often times have shin/calf pain from half a mile in through the first 1.5 miles. Not last night though! Last night was pain free 100% and I have to say, there is no better feeling!
When the race was over everything was dark and neon, and it was time to start snapping pictures!
As you can tell, I got a little something on my face. As such, I found out it’s really easy to look scary when you have neon green color all of your face!
All said and done, I really love these types of events! If you’ve never done any type of fun run, I would highly encourage giving them a shot. Nowadays there are 100s of different kinds so, with a little bit of looking, you’re bound to find something you’d enjoy!
