100 Hours!

I have finally met that elusive 100 hours milestone in my activity challenge and it feels so good! If this is your first time visiting my blog, let me explain.

My weight loss challenge is only about a month old but, in doing it, I’ve created a weight loss bucket list of food and activity challenges I’m trying to meet to stay on track. One of these is a 400 Hour Challenge that my husband and I committed to at the beginning of the year.

Starting January 1st, we challenged each other to complete 400 hours of activity by December 31. Here are the details we worked out for the challenge:

  • Any activity that gets us off the couch counts, as long as it’s constant for the time it’s tracked. So bowling, for example, would not count because you’re usually sitting between turns. However, walking counts even if it’s casual.
  • Time is tracked in 15 minute increments and we have to pass the 15 minute mark in order to count it. So if we do 26 minutes of activity, we only get to track 15 minutes.
  • Any questionable time must be mutually agreed upon. For example, I walk the stairs at work (8 floors). Each instance of that would never equal 15 minutes but we both agreed it would have great health benefits. So we agreed that I get to count 15 minutes in our challenge as long as do the stairs at least 3 times throughout the day. On the other hand, we’ve been to Disney twice this year for full-blown days and haven’t counted either of them because we felt like our walking was too sporadic and intermingled with long periods of standing in line.

Now, if any of you have done the math in this, you’re absolutely right. If the challenge goes January to December and I’ve just hit 100 hours, I’m actually way behind. Part of the reason I started this weight loss challenge was because my husband and I recently moved, which led to nearly 3 months of no exercise and awful eating. I know I have a lot of catching up to do, but I’m proud that I’m sticking with it instead of giving up.

Now I just need to keep making up hours until I’m on track with where I should be for the year. In that spirit, I’m going to give myself a mini challenge of hitting 25 more hours by the end of June and an additional 50 hours by the end of July. Even then I won’t be caught up. But I’ll be a lot closer! 🙂
